About
I am a social epidemiologist and physician-in-training. Currently, I am an MD/PhD candidate in the NIH-funded Medical Scientist Training Program at Columbia University, where I am pursuing a PhD in Epidemiology at the Mailman School of Public Health alongside an MD from the College of Physicians and Surgeons.
I graduated from the University of Michigan with a Bachelor of Science with Highest Distinction in Biology and Political Science in 2007. Following my first two years of medical school, I completed a DPhil in Public Health at Oxford University, where I was a Rhodes Scholar.
My research considers the social production of health, socioeconomic and ethnic inequalities in health, complex systems approaches in social epidemiology, and social disparities in clinical outcomes. I have written over 20 published or in press scientific articles, several commentaries and book chapters, and presented over 30 conference abstracts.
Additionally, I am a Fellow at Dēmos, a non-partisan public policy think tank. My commentary engages the public debate around healthy policy questions in the US and globally, with a particular focus on disease prevention in light of epidemiologic trends and emerging public health challenges.
